spi ss black or bc/cc ?

I'm going to use all spi products to do my 1987 Buick grand national. I'm torn between. single stage or base coat clear coat. I was sure I was going to do BC/cc but I been reading up on black paint jobs and now I'm on the fence now can someone give there opinion or advice ECT. I'm paying someone to do it. I'll strip it down myself . The car will not be a daily driver and I want it to last. Thanks in advanced

i have shot and sanded and buffed both ways. not sure if its just a difference in the batches but the bc/cc was def a little blacker. i have shot test panels of 4-5 different blacks from the big manufacturers and spi back base is hands down the blackest by a long shot. its night and day from the the others. the spi ss had a slight brown/violet tone to it in direct sunlight but not bad or any worse than the blacks from the majors. only really noticeable against the spi basecoat.

is this good advice if I go with the spi ss

One of the best I've ever seen is when Single stage is mixed with clear .....1st , do a 75-25 mix....then 50-50... then 25-75. That way it looks deep and shiney all in one. Just my two cents, that's how my guy painting mine is going to do it. As long as there is enough paint on the car , you can buff for days like this. I think two of the best Blk paints I've seen are(factory wise that is) is from Lexus and the other from Jaquar. Jaquar's blk is sooo deep. lexus blk is just almost flawless/ besides most of them having a little peel. They just need rubbed out. So base/clear on some of the newer cars looks great. The deeper blks I've seen at cruise ins and car shows are mainly Single/clear mixes. Any solid color you can do this. Red,blue, blk etc. NO metalics. Anyway. Just my thoughts on it. Both look good to

Since SPI SS black is based on the 2100 Production Clear, intermixing is not a problem. I do think that the first coat should be 100% color though, to get coverage off on the right foot. SS tends to be a tougher finish than bc/cc, it is ideal for solid colors. But you can't buff for days on 3 coats of urethane, so for a really nice look, you need to shoot 3 coats, then wetsand it and apply 3 more coats any way you like.
