Spraying Motorcycle and other newb questions

I have a lot of questions, I'm posting them here first because I usually get the best painting advice. For those who paint motorcycle tanks what is your spray pattern. I have a five and a half gallon bulbous tank. So do you spray the center underside first with clear tape it off and then do the top side? If painting in colder temps outside 55-65 degrees F does the flash time change a lot? Is Maxx solv 5900 wax and grease remover safe to use between base coats and before clear and after clear if. I don't really get the timing with the cut and buff. The guy at the paint shops said with the UV clear I could have a few weeks of time before I had to cut and buff the tank and seat if I kept them out of the sun light. Reading the perfect paint job, seems like that's no where in there. Has anybody ever sprayed a design over carbon fiber? The seat I'm sure will have the nice shinny gloss coating from the resins and possible be protected from UV damage. Anyways I want to paint two white scallops but show a lot of the carbon fiber off. I think I should tap out the design that I want then sand that part. Then I guess go straight base coat and last clear the whole seat? What do you think about that? Has anybody done pinstripes with a hvlp gun?

Guys I know that's a ton of questions and I apologies. I hope this is in the right section. Thanks for reading.... Collin

I'll take the first question. Hang the tank and paint everything at once. Next.

Ok you make that sound easy and I'm not going to say it want work. So how would you hang it? I usually use clothes hangers, but then it spins and the paint will miss the part where its being hung.

yes always hang the tank. i never paint a tank on a stand. i cant help on the wax and grease remover since i have never used that brand before. some you can wipe down base with and others are harsh and will bite into the base. uv clear buffs great anytime. you can do it a year later if you want but in the winter i would wait a week. the more sun the better. for carbon, prep the whole piece, mask your design, spray then clear the whole part. dont shoot the base directly on the prepped carbon part. shoot a watered down thin coat of epoxy first so the base bonds to it really well.

Jim C your saying to prep the whole piece of carbon fiber, sand with like 120-220, even the part that I'm not painting with spi base white? So I guess the clear has something to cling to when I spray the whole thing. I guess the carbon fiber would still look good after the sanding. I have never seen in person, touch, let alone work with carbon fiber. I got a guy who said he would make a female mold and build a copy of my seat out of carbon fiber for $200. So I'm trying to prep a smooth finish for him to pull off of. Thanks to both of yall for coming through with some info. Here's a question, when your painting your tanks that are hanging, let me say this. I have used clothes hangers in the past and they always prevent a spot from getting painted. So what do yall hang them with?

no you can basecoat over 120 scratches. prep the whole piece in 400g. for hanging i use steel wire i get on a spool. .040dia. you need to hang you parts from a spot that wont been seen.

I have built tank stands that allow me to be able to paint the whole tank at once. Ive also did the hanging thing as well.

A couple months back I was looking into ways to mount the tank on a stand by way of the fuel opening. Obviously I didn't think about it too much cause I'm pretty sure I could have welded something up.
