well hell i'm sold. all the paper from 1k to 3k worked great. i did 1k-1500-2k-3k .
the 3k looks like first buff. the presta w/b will kill this in seconds. then i can start foam pads and CG v-series.
be glad to finish it so i can get it in the buildroom. A/C ! next year i will have my a//c finished.
this reminded me of an old story about how i taught a young feller to sand and buff. long story too long for here.

once again thanks Jimc you're a blessing.

very nice shine. did you end up using their foam discs for the 3000 step? i tried a box of those in the sil carb version and for some reason they just didnt seem like they wanted to start cutting. maybe its just me and i need to give them another shot or perhaps i need to try the reg alum ox ones. the blue bufflex just works so well for that step its hard to imagine something working better.

yes these are foam disc . used just a little water and rinsed it one sheet will likely finish the cab.
beats the hell out of trizac . i'm riding a little long in the saddle on sanding. buffer is killing me.
i got a lot of millage out of all the sheets. the film disc lasted a long while and did a good cut.

yes. i didn't have 1200 or 2500 but the cut is good enough you don't need it.
Good to know. Still reading and weighing my options. I’m still debating/deciding which specific abrasives to go with for my first cut and buff that’s coming up. Initially had planned to use the Eagle yellow film 1000, Assilex 1500, Buflex 2500, Trizact 8000. Then more recently looking at maybe the Sunmight 1000, 1200, 1500 first. But Hell, I’m still unsure about hand sanding or using the Dynabrade DA for my first time.

thanks

I'm starting sunmight 1000, 1500, then Buflex 2500 and Trizact 8000.

However I wish you had been on the ball a little earlier Shine because not too long ago I asked if anybody had experience with Sunfoam 3000, and if I could do that instead of going with Buflex 2500 (which is very expensive). Your experience sounds like I could have.

when i can do a roof/qrt/trunk on a 56 chevy with one pad cost is irrelevant . it would have taken 2-3 trizac pads. considering how much work it is saving on buffing it's cheap.

I love the sunfoam.. I use the 2000 and 3000. They have ended the pigtail problems because any contaminate will just compress into the foam and not scratch. The hardest part is to switch it out. I have a hard time telling when it is not cutting anymore. I have a new rule, one pad per panel, 2 on the roof regardless if I think it is still cutting.

i used 3 1k disc, 2 1500, 2 2k and only 1 3k and it's still cutting with just 1 quarter and trunk left.
cleaning the pads and disc is all important. i'm getting no pigtails with this paper.
the foam pads i rinse off well after a pass. that way i can tell if it is still cutting by the amount of mud / foam it makes.

i think i found the limit. got the roof/qrt/tunk done. just not cutting as fast. BUT you can bet i'm keeping this pad for other things. if i could just find some super duty compound . would make for a real good cutting pad with compound on it.

Not sure where your buying the bufflex but its cheaper than the sunmight foam discs. Sunfoam is about 3.50 per disc and bufflex is 2.60. It also just last forever. Just as long as a trizact disc. So far its the least expensive thing i have tried.
You sure are right! I just had to buy more Buflex discs in a box (25) than what come in the Sunfoam (10) so I guess that made the Sunfoam seem a lot cheaper.

How many Buflex discs do you think you use per car?

well hard to say since im not painting cars but to take a guess i would say a larger car would be 3 discs. small/med car 2.
