Anyone ever used a Thermacell repeller in their paint area? It works great outdoors. Thoughts?

Sounds like a good idea. I might have to get one. Does it repel anything other than mosquitoes? Flies are the biggest issue for me. Darn things come out of the woodwork when they smell solvent.

I see that the Thermacell uses some sort of fuel to repel. That would make me worry a bit about fisheyes.

i learned the hard way. dont put any of those lights near your booth. damn things draw bugs from a mile. it by the shop door. moved it about 50 ft away and the bugs followed.

It's not a light. It uses a repellent infused pad that gets heated then diffuses the repellent. My concern is the little amt of oil in the pad.

It worked great against no see-ums and mosquitoes last time I was at the coast. Im not sure how it would work for other flying insects.

Some of what the thermacell repels. I dated a girl named Midge. She was a biter.

i have used citronella candles in the paint area. if i seal or base the night before ill light some candles around the car then come in the morning, early and clear. seems to help. i once put one of those florescent bug zappers in the paint area, and that was a big mistake, like shine said, it attracted the bugs into the area.

you guys want to get rid of bugs all together, get some talstar p. its a professional product but since your using it personally you dont need a license to buy it. you can get it in a 3/4 gallon jug for 50 bucks. do your whole yard with it. it will last forever. spray it at a rate of .5oz per 1000sqft. do it every 2 weeks or so and all bugs just leave your property. i have been using it for years. i can turn on my flood lights outside at night and sit there and there isnt a single bug bouncing off the lights. spiders, beetles and flying insects all go away. its pretty safe stuff too. approved for food prep areas, etc. i stopped spraying 2 years ago and the bugs are just starting to come back. all the stuff you buy over the counter like at home depot are all terrible, expensive and dont work. its all just marketed for the home owner. use the real stuff that a professional would use. cheaper and better results. you can buy it right on ebay or amazon.

doing this tonight.

looks like the generic is bifentherin.

which i would assume is a combination of bifen and permetherin ..ive used those products in the past they both work much better than home depot stuff. never thought of mixing them both lol

so i have tried the generic version of talstar and for some reason it doesnt work. not sure why or what the difference is but be sure to get the actual talstar brand stuff. its not immediate either. make sure grass or weeds are cut down then spray a double dose first application then 1 week later do that again then go to regular dose every 2 weeks. you can spray it with a backpack sprayer or whatever you have around. it is a whole yard type thing. spray it everywhere at that rate i gave above. it doesnt seem to kill anything where the bugs just drop out of the sky. they simply just go away after a while.

my problem is nats . those little bastards will hide and wait until you clear. i'll be damned if i'll repaint a car because of them. you respray and you just get new ones.

yeah same here. i have wasps too, but they never seem interested in getting drunk off clear coat. i cant clear anything after about 7pm because the bugs will come out. have to do it early in the morning. i remember when i tried to clear a roof the first time. we sprayed base coat, about 10p and all was well. we waited about an hour and went into clear, and what a mistake. the bugs just came out of no where. they were landing as i was spraying, what a waste of material. that was deltron basecoat too. learned my lesson that night about garage painting after dark

no gnats with talstar. 7pm and you can sit out on your deck and not have to swat at a single bug. might take a month to get to that point but once you do you can just maintain it easily.

just dont get it close to your garden. wont work for me as i have too many animals roaming around.
guess i could apply it while gardens are done but still have my greenhouses.
