Universal Clear over decals

Restoring a 72 Duster with my daughter. Plan to use UC and the Duster has a lot of decals. Would you spray over the decals to keep them from fading and looking bad quickly in the Arizona sun? Are there any negatives to doing this? My old Kawasaki GPz’s has Clear over decals and it worked well there.

Thanks
Jim

jim, every motorcycle made from any manufacturer has the decals on the tank cleared over. its done every day. i usually spray one quick, thin coat of adpro on the decal then just clear it.

Thanks Jim, what type of time line do you use? Spray the base then wait how long to apply the decals? The hood will actually be a stencil and I need to spray it black. I am assuming that regardless of if the decals are matte or not they will be gloss when done. Is there any reason to spray the hood with a matte to match the stripe decals matte finish?

Thanks.

if you put a gloss clear down it will be gloss in the end no matter what it goes over. i would let the base sit overnight to allow all the solvent to flash before you stick a decal to it.
