universal clear ?'s

I am in the process of redoing our basement after having lost it to flooding last year, and I am down to the trim. My question is can universal clear be used on on wood for a natural modern look? I have all of my base and case molding to do as well as window sills and stair treads. Base/case are birch and the treads are maple. I plan to sand with 320, tack of and spray.
 
That pretty much answers the question! Thanks for the reply, I know what I'm doing this weekend.
