update on the sata 5000 B RP 1.4

I've had the gun for a while now and I'm really starting to like it. This last spray out of universal over a tri coat (pearl) I set the needle stop at 1.25 turns out from closed, pattern wide open, full air pressure to the gun, hi flow fitting, RTI regulator at 25 psi with trigger pulled. Fast and slick.

I laid 3 coats of universal on this, plan is to cut and buff and it's not going to be hard to do.

The rp is a great gun. Mine has a 1.3 and puts out plenty. In another thread here it was discovered that the 5000 b rp 1.3 is actually slightly larger than 1.5mm.
Barry has a 1.4 and chokes it down, don't remember exactly what he mentioned for setting or what cleat but I don't think it was any farther than what you used, 1-1/4.

I love the 5000 RP. The best gun I have ever used for clear. I bought a 1.3 but also have the 1.4 needle and nozzle set. My day job I primarily use the 1.3. Overalls I use the 1.4. Just a terrific gun.

So anybody used a 3000 rp and now the 5000 rp? If so how do they compare? Is the 5000 far superior to the 3000 or just a slight bit better?

The 5000RP is on another level in terms of atomization. I've used a 3000RP a bit, didn't like it and went back to my 2000RP until I got the 5000RP. The 5000RP sprays like a 2000RP but with better atomization. If you got one Will I don't think you'd be disappointed.

War, I agree with Chris, I felt the 2000 rp was a much better clear gun and the 3000 was a great base gun the 4000 rp was a little improvement over the 3000 but neither hold a candle to the 5000.

My 5000 1.4 fluid seems to work great at 3/4 to 1.5 turns out, just a plain child proof gun, must be as it makes me look good!

My gun is a 1.3. Dammit, I don't know if it was a typo in my post title or if I had a brain fart yesterday, but my 5000 B RP is a 1.3, Not a 1.4 like my post title indicates.

And I am the guy that discovered that it physically measures as closer to a 1.5.

Anyways, my 1.3 worked great with the universal clear at 1.25 turns out from closed and I ran 25 psi at the gun (trigger pulled). Barry, what are you running for air pressure at the gun with yours?

I run my 1.3 at 29 psi at the gun, The highest I can be at the wall without fluctuation is 95-100 psi, 38' of 3/8" hose and hi-flow fittings. I haven't experimented with anything lower or higher at the gun.
Haven't shot any Universal with it yet, using the Euro 2020 with overall hardener and 885 reducer, 4:1:1.5. The RP puts it on fast and slick, love it.

One system is 157 at wall, other system is 145, home system is 157-160, I have used 24 to 36 and everywhere in between and it seems to work great, favorite setting is 28 trigger pulled as a great starting point, a 1.3 would be a couple of LBS less to get same effect.

cool, thanks guys. On my last overall spray with this gun and universal I was further open with the needle and running probably 22 lbs air. Bumping to 25 and choking the needle helped tremendously. I may eek the air up a bit today, see how I like it. most of my panels today are vertical so being a little slicker will really help when its time to cut peel and buff.
