What's a good affordable water based cleaner that's Not too harsh, as Not wash off any Over Spray? I'm gonna paint True Fire with Kandy Paints on a clear coated SPI Black Paint. Then Clear Coat bikes.
I have been practicing on Black Paper and composite panels. HD Bar/Shield is color shifting Silver to Blue to Molten Metal appearance. Pic doesn't do it justice!
Thanks,
Lynn

the overspray from airbrushing like when you do real fire or something like that is very delicate. i would always use one of two things. ammonia free glass cleaner which is basically what hok kc20 is. the other one is pure mineral spirits. both are very gentile. spi 710 will wipe off the overspray every so slightly making the fire look funny and the 700 is way too harsh as that has acetone in it.

When I was at Kindigit they were using some fancy high dollar Akzo Nobel spray cleaner. Looked and smelled just like Sprayway to me and they use it on base as standard procedure. They had some fancy antistatic spray they used too.

Yes don i know both of those products. The antistatic is water based sort of but itbis strong and will wipe off base. The other stuff is basically just glass cleaner and the same as the kc20. That on you can use on base. For years i used zep glass cleaner concentrate from home depot. One gal was 8 bucks and made 32 gal of cleaner.

Sprayway glass cleaner works well on fresh base etc.
I saw a lengthy video the other day on a paint project where the commentator stated that he did away with all oil/grease removers and waterborne automotive products. He stated that he uses alcohol and Sprayway Glass cleaner only. Stated since doing so, he has had no paint related issues such a fisheyes and such. Thoughts?

I think there is too many variables for a definitive answer. If you like to eat fried chicken while doing your bodywork then probably not… :)

Barry is on record here recommending against relying solely on Sprayway as a cleaner.

I know Windex is a no-no, it leaves a film. I cleaned a truck with it once prior to applying vinyl lettering and masking tape wouldn't even stick!
I mostly use 700 water for that type of cleaning.

One issue that I have is that there's no water at my garage. I have a 250 gal. tote that I keep about half full, but no pressurized water source.
