What color epoxy?

What color epoxy should I be using under grey/silver final color. Some panels have black and some a grey. Do I need to make sure all the panels have the same epoxy color? I was planning on shooting a 2k primer over them as well.

you could always do what I did. buy two or three different colors of epoxy to custom mix the color for whatever section you're painting. if you got a quart each or white, grey, and black, you could really create anything you want to for that car.

This would apply only to the sealer coat. doens't matter what you do under it, medium grey is fine

If you are shooting 2k primer over your epoxy then it really won't matter what color epoxy is underneath. For consistency you could shoot another coat of epoxy making it all the same color (something that will contrast with your 2k primer). This would help in your block sanding process. Once you reach epoxy while block sanding it will be easy to tell.

cool thanks. I think i'll order another gallon of black and then a quart of white to custom mix some grey. I forgot if they sell it in grey, better go check.

How close is the grey in epoxy vs the grey in 2k? I want to make sure I can tell the difference when blocking.

The 2k high build is darker than the grey epoxy

If you are making your epoxy lighter than regular epoxy, you're good to go.

I always use the black epoxy for the foundation work then it doesn't matter what color poly or 2k goes over it. Just before paint use your custom mixed epoxy as a sealer coat if you like.

It doesn't take much black to make white gray.
You'd be better to get a gallon of white then a quart of black.
I use it that way all the time.

I agree.
Recently did silver on my Chevy van and used a grey epoxy for the sealer coat.
6 parts white to 1 part black epoxy worked good and it was a little lighter than the grey SPI regular 2K primer.
Start with white and add the black until you get the shade you want.

OR>>> buy a gal of grey and a qt each of white and black...
seemed to work for me:p
