Which color for a first timer?

So I'm getting ready to paint my first complete car. Its a 90 VW Gti that I'm going to be selling. Right now I know I want to go base/clear and use SPI Universal clear but I'm stuck between two colors. The car was originally black but painted a nice silver by the previous owner. I was thinking putting it back to stock color but I've also been obsessing over this Jeep color called Anvil (pic below). I was going to go with SPI black black base if I go that route but I think the Anvil might be more forgiving for a first timer. If I do go Anvil i was going to go with Omni base to keep the costs down. Thoughts?

Black on the car I would be painting

I wish I had something to add, but I'd just like to say that Anvil is an interesting color, what is the factory code? Was thinking about painting my 66 Mustang all black with the trim black as well. But Anvil with blacked out trim looks pretty cool.

I really like the Anvil in any type of light other than direct sunlight. It is more dark in person unlike the last two pics. It works well on the Jeep because of the contrasting black trim and wheels. My car has a large amount of black moulding on the bumpers, wheel arches and front grille. I don't have black wheels so I'm wondering if it will work or not.....

A solid color like your examples are easier to learn than a metalic. A solid singlestage is even easier than BC/CC for most first timers.

Interesting point Bob. I have heard mixed things, some say BC/CC is easier than single stage and vise versa. I guess my main motivation for doing BC/CC is that I want to paint my true project car after seeing how this car turns out. Oh and its going to be a solid color too. I want a funky OEM 70s color. Just can't deside between Chrome Yellow, Miami blue or Rallye green (last one is my old car!).

Anvil is a love it or hate it color.
Black has stood the test of time.
Go back to black is my suggestion.

I am old and set in my ways and for the life of me cannot understand why people paint chrome black, buy black wheels - hell they were black when you bought a car when I was a kid and you saved up to get some chrome or alloy wheels. I don't understand the desire to drive around in a car that looks like primer no matter the color. Anvil looks like clear over primer.
Sorry for the rant, just had to put it out there and maybe someone can explain why it is so cool today.

I have to check that last box on surveys (65 or over) and I have the same mindset. Before I could afford chrome reverse rims with baby Moons or polished aluminum rims, I had to rattle-can the stock rims silver. The last thing I want to do is put black or painted rims on my car.

I think it has to do with that phone thingy my grand-kids prefer over speaking. When I was growing up, tapping a real short note into a machine was called a telegraph. I just verified that my phone bill in January 1965 was $5.28, which allowed my wife and I to talk to our friends (when no one else was using the 4-party line) -- my son's family of 9 spends over $600 a month to avoid talking to anyone. Sorry, I can't lol either -- my wife worries when I start laughing out loud when using the computer (she's pretty sure dementia runs in my family)...

Well i appreciate the feedback. I will say that colors like Anvil and a few others, to me are a bit of a bold step for the OEMs away from the light metallics that you see on every new car these days. I think the solid colors like Anvil really show off the clear. The depth and gloss on a solid looks much better to me than on a metallic. Don't get me wrong: I love metallics, pearls and candies just as much as the next guy but I think the trend for some enthusiasts and even OEMs is a solid color with high gloss.

if you want to learn to paint and do it right paint it black. you will learn all you will ever need to know on the first coat :)
