which color scotchbrite pad after 600 grit paper-

btw, yes i used the new 3m pads awhile back. they seem really thin and light weight compared to any regular ones but they pretty much just keep on cutting until there is nothing left of them. im on my last box of old style. when thats gone i will only used the new ones from now on.
Jim C, Do you know the product number for the "totally bad ass" 3m scuff pads you refer to.

I thought 400 grit was fine for solid colors and 600 for metallics final sanding before base ?

Thats been my experience. But ive gotten to where I final prep 600 for everything. Ive had a few issues with some colors of non metallics not wanting to cover 400 grit. Just my experience

I think the 400/600 recommendations are taken too literally. It also matters if you're sanding by hand or machine. Hand sanding will be more aggressive. That 400 could equal 320 or coarser depending on the pressure used. The Standox TDS says 800-1k for the base coat area. Then, the rest of the panel with1200 to 1500 then finished with a gold scotchbrite and sanding paste.
