Epoxy primer final coat on tool chest

I have a 3 tier tool chest that I got involved stripping paint off of (bottom 2 cabinet's was Dad's circa 1966 Herbrand I believe, top 20 year old Snap-On) because after many years they looked pretty bad. Heavy gauge with quality hardware compared to my Craftsman 3 tier tool chest. Becoming a bit of a nightmare project time wise (juggling other projects at the same time) and now I'm ready to shoot it SPI black epoxy. I like the semi-gloss look and was thinking of leaving it that way. Would that stand up to the abuse of tools, greasy hands etc.. Would it be wise to shoot Euro directly over epoxy? Trying to avoid putting color on it as I have all the tools in plastic bins waiting to go back into the drawers and I don't have any single stage urethane on hand. Plus I need it done yesterday! If SS is the only right way to finish it any recommendations for inexpensive materials befitting a toolbox?
Thanks

Nothing wrong with epoxy if you like the look, but you can spray Euro over it if you decide you want the glossy look. Epoxy only will be the most chip resistant, and probably the most chemical resistant as well, once full cure is achieved.

Epoxy is tough! but full cure might be weeks down the road so don't test the scratch and chip resistance till then.

Thanks guys. Black epoxy it is. My son (15) is going to do the spraying and since this will be his tool box one day he wanted it to be epoxy too. He originally suggested spraying matt clear over it to keep the patina lol! He's watching too many Gas Monkey episodes!
