16hr wait for 2nd coat and I still need to clear it??

I'm painting a Jetski and my top coat base white is telling me that 2-3 coats recommended but you have to wait a minimum of 16hr each! That means that I can't get a clear on it for 3 days!!??
 
I never heard of this before but follow their advice; JimC has a ton of experience in boating; maybe he knows the deal.
 
thats not right. what product are you using? awlcraft for instance you let flash 30-45 min each coat and you can wait maybe up to 16 hrs before you clear but thats max and depends on temp. its not much different than most ss or clears. all marine paint systems are either just straight ss or ss with clear over. none are like actual air dry automotive basecoat systems so they are more critical of recoat windows. 16 hrs and im pretty sure no matter what you are using you will end up with poor or less layer adhesion if you wait 16 hrs between coats.
