Repairing a very nice original paint 2005 Saturn Ion. Replaced the front fender and the front edge of door has some chips. Feather out the chips on door then hit it with SPI epoxy ( all I use ) and wow wrinked up like crazy. Any body run into this and best quick repair............I think I know what I am going to do. Nees to get this out of shop and deliverd. Thanks Tom

Is it like this?

If so, it is from putting it on too heavy, or bad gun settings, spray technique.
Look horrible but pretty easy to recover from. Let it dry 48 hours, sand it down and re-shoot correctly.
It is not uncommon.
Search on "epoxy craters" on the forum.

Good old Saturn. The factory primer was junk. Had to use a waterbased primer made by R&M to paint those parts brand new. Couldn't even wipe them with solvent wax and grease remover. Good luck. Don't even know what primer is available anymore.
I remember fighting that fight back in my collision days. And I think we were still using lacquer primer (1990's). I do remember spraying very lightly whatever we put on there. And did not ever put masking tape on it no matter what. Sorry, have no idea what Saturn used in 2005.

Same here except we used a water based primer by PPG. I can't remember the part number though. I think Transtar still makes a waterborne primer. Hydroflex IIRC.
