2K Primer question

Working on a TR6 metal that the existing paint was stripped to bare metal. Black SPI epoxy was laid down followed by 2K primer for any lows identified during blocking and guide coats. So I have taken it up to 240 grit with home made acrylic blocks and have a few minor lows that I would like to hit one more time with 2k primer. A few areas I have hit metal, maybe a quarter size, should I lay down some epoxy first or can I just go directly to 2K primer and start blocking? The base epoxy is 3 - 4 weeks old.
Thank you, Jeff

You CAN use 2K only, but you will be far better off to re-apply epoxy first for best adhesion & best sealing. Using different color 2K and Epoxy will help eliminate going through to metal as you will be able to see when you are getting close.

If you have low spots called out by guidecoat, I would not take too much stock and the 2K fixing it. 2K Is good for filling in scratches and imperfections around filler but you would have to pile a lot of 2K on to fill any appreciable low spot. I would use a glazing putty. It will be faster.

Thanks for the thoughts. My thoughts are consistent with the advice noted above.
One more question, can the 2k primer go over areas that have been blocked and there are no exposed metal where the epoxy was sanded through. I seem to not find anything in the 2k instructions about open time, if any, however did note it can be utilized as a sealer prior to topcoat.

if the 2k is sanded then you can apply more 2k over it no problem. no need for epoxy unless you have a bare metal spot

as lizer said a glazing putty may be called for but it really depends on how low the spot is. if its just slight then the 2k may well be enough. no way we can tell from here. you would have to make the call
