2K Regular Primer Question

Hello,
Is there a minimum time you have to wait to spray single stage over the 2K? The tech sheet says to scuff after 24 hours and can be sanded after 60 minutes. My guess is after 60 minutes but just wanted to be sure.
Thanks.

It would be best to shoot a coat of reduced epoxy sealer over the 2k. I like to give the 2k as much time as possible to shrink before I sand it, so I will block it the following day after shooting it if I'm not in a huge hurry.

I have about 80 small parts I am doing, engine compartment parts, convertible top frame, ect. I did 2 coats epoxy but was not happy with how they came out (craters). So I sanded the craters out and sprayed 1 more coat of epoxy since I burned thru some edges. I wanted then to spray some 2K so I had some material to sand without burning thru the edges. Then single stage to finish.

I would leave the 2k off them, just me. Even with 2k you’ll still sand through edges. It sands a lot easier than epoxy. You don’t want much build on those because if they chip after painting it will look bad. You’ll hate yourself if you have all those parts with 2k to sand.

With fresh epoxy, if you miss sanding a section of a part it’s ok. With 2k, ALL of it needs to be sanded or there can be adhesion issues.

Move faster with your epoxy and you might need to turn your fluid in too. What gun and how many turns out is it?

I didn't get the craters with the last epoxy coat I did. I am using a 3M performance gun with a 1.4 tip. These are some pretty complicated castings which would be very difficult to sand. How long do I need to wait to spray the SS over the epoxy?
Thanks for the help.

If your epoxy is unreduced you need to spray the SS within the 7 day cure window. I spray SS the following day.
