3M PPS 2.0 cup lids

For those of you that use these cups do the built in strainers restrict flow?

It is not recommended to use the built in lid strainer on 3M PPS 2.0 when spraying SPI epoxy mixed 1:1.

For that matter, it's not recommended to use lid strainer on any disposable cup when spraying SPI epoxy mixed 1:1

Thanks MJM, I use a different gun for epoxy and primer. The reason I ask is just purchased a Iwata LPH 400 for base annd clear and it came with the 3M PPS 2.0 cup and gun adapter. The only way to remove the strainer is to cut it out ☹️

I take them out of the lid and just use regular stainers. I like the cups just because of the various sizes and the ability to spray upsidedown if needed. They're not cheap but do save me cleanup time.

Removing the strainers is not hard. Cut a hole, grab with needle nose, and give a hard fast pull. I feel the paint(all types) flows better without the strainers after trying it with and without them. I also question how the PPS system vents....I feel it has to restrict flow some how but I have not gotten an answer about that. It certainly helps clean up though. Just remember to not throw away your mixing cup!

Thanks guys, I have been using the Devilbliss D cups but the 3M PPS cups eliminate the need for a mixing cup. I will just strain the paint ,reducer and activator when filling the cup.

There shouldn't be a strainer in the gun either.

3M must have caught wind of the guys tearing out the strainer liner in the lids of their cups. When they made the lids for the 6 oz cups, they incorporated a "pull tab" on the strainer liner. I use the 6oz cup every now and again, that tab makes it a breeze to remover the strainer liner. On my 20oz cups, I just use a flat head screwdriver to lift up a edge so I can pull it off.

I hope you're not speaking from experience, that would suck.

It does not vent--no reason to. Atmospheric pressure on the flexible liner creates no vacuum as the paint depletes in spraying. I use the 3M hard pressure cup for uses with the 2.0 liners and like these way better than just gravity or siphon feed.

There have been issues where the liners are too stiff and won’t collapse leading to paint flow issues. I would not use them because of that.

we remove them for everything we spray. cut a 1inch slit in the center of the screen, stick your finger through it and pull. it should come out in one piece with ease. i do 10-15 at a time for future use.
