i have been watching the salvage cars for a long time. usually best way to go. lot of them are in texas so i can go put eyes on them. tons of flood cars here still too . i have seriously considered an early vette flood car to restomod .

I lost a bid on a 58 vette flood car but i knew i was going to have 60-70 in parts to make what i wanted to make.
BUT if flood car with air bags, electric seats Id buy for parts only.
Lot of examples of why out there, bmw seat caught fire just 2 days latter, may just driving and air bags go off.

only thing worth using on flood car is hard parts. a 56-60 vette that was nice before is what i would want. main reason is all the stainless and hard parts. beats buying a beater that 80% of it has to be replaced . looked at a 59 that was complete . but it was a complete pos. every piece was bent corroded or nasty . hull and frame was all that was usable.

Be careful buying flood stuff to reuse electrical and electronic components. Former Boss loved getting flood Mercedes for his wife to drive, every one of them would be ok for about a year then various electric and electronic gremlins would appear. Seats would stop working then start again, that sort of thing. If it got wet it will have corrosion issues inside the connectors eventually. Definitely stay away from flood salvage air bags. Don't believe the low flood bs that so many of them are advertised with either. If it's low they don't get totaled. Like Shine said hard parts are about the only thing you want to use off a flood.

well i have finally cornered the market on chevy fleetlines. 2 complete cars and a good parts car . going to be a long road to finished. i've wanted to build this car for a long time. actually wanted an Oldsmobile but too hard to find. i have one more to go look at to see if it has anything i need. car will be a luxury protouring car with c5 suspension and ls3/6speed auto . lot of subtle mods and wood trim inside. the sheetmetal will set bare for a long time so it will get blasted and soaked in acid. with the vette suspension i will have to build on a jig and reshape the rear tubs and trunk floor. hope to get it at least a roller before the move .
this is an example of where it is headed.
Want another ?

Cost me $1100 3 years ago to have a car shipped from So-Cal to Virginia.

Shine what price range you shooting for with this one? Auction or do you think you'll be able to sell it locally?

hopefully i will get to send it to auction. every one i've ever built was sold half way through the build. not going to do that this time. not for sale until finished. it's about the build. something i want to do. have no idea on value until finished.
cost of shipping has ended several buys for me. i found an olds in tenn for 1k and they wanted 800 to ship. car did not run and apart so that added another 500-600 .

I know it's a long shot but I have had some luck with a party coming back or going empty and will haul more reasonable. AACA sites and others have forums to look on ,just has to fall in place.

if it is a running car . the olds i found was a roller but the dog house and bumpers were removed . none of the carriers want to mess with it . i only paid 400 for these cars and they were a pin in the butt to load . i looked at some that were still running but i only need a hull. not paying 3-6k for a builder .

This is the Chevy I was telling you about Shine...this is my definition of a survivor car...I found not one place on it that had been modified or repaired...like stepping back in history....I couldn't stand it and made her an offer....maybe more to follow !!

Body is in amazing shape to be in North Carolina, and essentially outside. Wow. I was thinking about contacting you about it...wish I had. Hope you get it though. Make sure you do right by the car, it deserves it.

If I get it, think I'll just get it running and not clean it at all and take it to a few shows...maybe then, wipe it down and flip it...like everyone, I got to many projects going to start another...anyhow,cool history
