5000 clear

Vacations wear me out! My butt hurts from driving, my legs are killing me from walking no less then 10 miles a day on the beach or shopping and I don't ever want to see another restaurant.

Now can get back to work and rest up!

WELL, I don't think so, the wife timed all walks figuring 30 minutes equals 2 miles, so we would walk for 60 minutes one way on the beach and then 60 minutes back, it takes a lot of work to push 203 lbs and last thing I need is to carry a computer for extra weight.

I found a chair and an umbrella. My knee will not take walking in the sand too much. But I still enjoy the beach. Add a drink with an umbrella and toss the laptop in the sand ;)

I will be doing more work on the fast this week. Won't be long.
This past week Barry sent me a sample quart of the new Spot/Panel activator. Had a customer try it on several panels and I had the chance to spray it on two fender size panels mixed 4:1:2 and 4:1:1. The results were very good! Dust free in 7-10 minutes. Tack free in 16-18 minutes. Sand and buffable in 30-40 minutes. (Faster with 2 parts reducer, slower with 1 part). All panels were sprayed wet-on-wet with no flash between clear coats. About the same DOI as with normal activator and spray characteristics. Sanded and buffed easy as well. The only suggestion I had was to make it flash and dry a little faster if possible. Barry adjusted it slightly and says it should be about 10% faster than the sample batch he sent me without sacrificing adhesion or durabilty. Overall, Should give the speed freaks out there (my self included) exactly what we need. Thanks Barry!!!

Thanks for the review, sounds like just the ticket for our cold winters. I still have not tried the overall hardener. Murphy's Law has seen fit to provide me with only hurry up paint work lately.

Well you should do well with the Spot/Panel activator. My customer Scott said it looked better and sprayed easier than the HPC15 from S&W. Looked comparable to the DC2000 from PPG (ppg's response to HPC15) The advantage the Euro will have over both in my opinion is film build and durability. I'm going to try to mike out some test panel with each and get a real world dry film comparison. Barry has already suggested to me that at 4:1:1 the Euro could be sprayed at 1 full wet coat on production work and have as much film build as those other clears with two coats. I look forward to confirming that.

Hell yeah sign me up!!!!

weather is fixing to change here and i want some.

thanks Barry

Just left the plant about two hours ago and all testing looks great, I have a sealed batch made up and we will fill Monday morning..

#5001-4

Sprayed the back sides of some Harley hard bags this weekend with the sample fast activator. Did a soft mask on outside corners then blended clear with reducer. Waited about 20 minutes then used a heat gun on it for about 5 minutes. Sanded clear and blend area with 2000 then buffed. Showed it to several people before customer came for it and they couldn't tell where the new clear started and old ended. I love the way this clear blends! Ordered my first production batch of fast activator yesterday. Can't wait!

had to spray the bedside today of 2010 chevy truck.

outside temp was around 74.metal temp was 68-69.

i sprayed it 4-1-2.fast activator and 860 reducer.

sprayed first coat wet,let it set exactly 5 minutes come back and really laid on the 2nd coat.

wow this stuff kicks fast and i like it.

cant tell you exactly how much time it took to be dust free,Ect.

when i got done spraying i went out and didnt come back for about 30 minutes.

really outta make things easier for when the cold cold hits and the small jobs.

once again Barry thank you!

Travis

How much faster is it with the fast act. than the universal with fast? I may need to revisit this clear, esp. for winter. I would use polar at 10%.

Had the chance to do some side by side testing with the new fast activator against the S&W HPC15 and PPG DC 2000 speed clears. Mixed the SPI and S&W 4:1:1 with medium Spies reducer. The PPG was mixed 4:1:1 with their Accelerated Medium reducer. Booth temp was about 83 degrees. Also did two additional SPI mixes with 2 parts reducer and one with Polar Accelerator at 2 oz. per quart.
All three clears were sprayed with one double wet-coat as recommended by their manufacturer’s with same gun within 10 minutes of each other. Pre-measured mill thickness of panels in multiple spots and wrote down measurements. Here are the results:

@ 4:1:1 Dust free Tack free To wetsand Mill Thickness Dry
PPG 4-5 min. 6-8 min. 16-18 min. 1.0-1.5
S&W 5-6 min. 7-8 min. 18-20 min. 2.1-2.3
SPI 7-8 min. 10-12 min. 25-30 min. 3.0-3.5
@ 4:1:2 Dust free Tack free To wetsand Mill Thickness Dry
SPI 6-7 min. 8-10 min. 20-25 min. 1.5-1.7
@ 4:1:2(with 2 oz. Polar) Dust free Tack free To wetsand Mill Thickness Dry
SPI 3-4 min. 5-7 min. 12-15 min. 1.5-1.7

Note the film builds. The PPG was not a misprint - only 1.0 - 1.5 mills dry. The S&W did better but I will note that I sprayed it heavier than normal because the pressure of the gun was about 3 pounds down from when we shot the PPG and SPI. My thanks to Scott @ Classi A/B for helping me today!

11/8/11 UPDATE: Measured panels again today. All three clears came up in measurement now that they are fully dried.
@ 4:1:1
PPG 1.2 - 2.2 mils. dry
S&W 2.3 - 2.5 mils. dry
SPI 3.2 - 3.8 mils. dry
@ 4:1:2
SPI 1.6 - 1.9 mils. dry
