air compressor belt problem?

hey guys i replaced my old motor and pump with a new Eaton 7.5 hp 3 cylinder 2 phase pump with a true 5 hp motor.

so far i love it!

its quiet and it fills my tank in 5 min. and kept up real nice while sandblasting.

now since i am using my existing 60 gal tank, i had to weld a larger plate on top and measure out all of the mounting holes.

i have everything true and square belts are straight as an arrow.
i have the belts tensioned at the recommended 1/2" deflection.

my question is that while it is running, the bottom part of the belts seem to flop around excessively.

is this normal?

here is a few pics of the setup and a quick video

thank you all in advance

mine has done it since i bought it . it's the resistance in the pump working against the electric motor.

It's perfectly normal. If you don't like the looks of it you could make a little bracket with a skateboard wheel on it that could act as a tensioner against the belt.

Before i got the adjustable motor mount that tensiond the belts. I rigged up a mount with a tensioner from a car. But if it is normal, im fine with it. The explanation of the pump resistance makes perfect sense to me

Thank you all

What you need to worry about is not having a guard on the belts. Somehow sometime something will get caught up in them and make a mess.

"helpful tip from a safety Nazi":encouragement:

Yessir. Actually have been drawing up plans for a guard to weld up and bolt to the top plate

Looks like a nice setup, any idea what the CFM/minute will be and where did you purchase the pump and motor? I need to get my backup compressor up and running for blasting. Anybody got a need for a big 3phase motor?

thanks Bob,
its an Eaton 7.5 hp 3 cylinder 2 phase that has 32cfm displacement
24cfm @ 175 psi
26cfm @ 100 psi
also has head unloaders to open the intake valves during heavy continuos applications like sandblasting that lets the pump free wheel to cool off the cylinders

I'll have to look, 5hp if I remember right but it must weigh 50lbs
