Anybody every use Surefinish or or Mystic Cut?

I know a painter who swears by Surefinish, I'd never heard of it by then but says he uses a wool buff and then foam buff. He doesn't sand any higher than 1500 wet. This is the stuff...

And then I heard another guy swear by Wizards Mystic Cut. I'm wondering if anybody else has used these before and what their opinions/experiences were? I've been using Chemical Guys (you can blame Shine for that) and I'm not unhappy with it. In fact that stuff smells so damn good I want to eat it. But I'm always up for trying out new things.

yes i have used the mystic cut. is it good....yes. my god for the price is it that good....no. at the time it came out i would consider it maybe 10% better than 3m's perfect-it compound but it cost even more than 3m. since then though 3m has come out with the perfect-it ex which will blow the mystic cut out of the water. i find 3m's price tag hard enough to swallow but wizards was quoting me prices just under double what i was paying for perfect-it..at the time. now this is going back about 4 years ago i guess. short answer though just get perfect-it ex. its better.

Interesting Jim. Have you used Chemical Guys and if so, how would you say the Perfect-It ex is compared to that? I kind of get tired of 3M like everyone else too.

I think technique & elbow grease are just as important as trying to find a new slightly better product. 3-m owns meguiars these days &I use some of their stuff instead of going to an auto body store for 3-m. For a lot of my use , I like the meguiars diamond cut for some projects, which starts out cutting & turns into a polish as it wears down. Not quite as good as 2 or 3 step product, but can get me pretty good in less time. Just a part time preference. I find the quicker getting to a shiny state helps keep me motivated in the long hours buffing requires & I particularly use it for occasional maintenance on black personal vehicles..

My local finishmaster has been mostly selling their own Smart label products for slightly cheaper.

As far as not going higher than 1500 grit, the wool buffs make up for that as they cut harder. Somewhat Old school there& easier to burn through. Technique & preference.

Also just to mention, though more of a detailing subject, last year I tried out a gallon of Meguiars pink colored cleaner, polish & wax combo product. Though obviously not even a choice after painting, trying to clean something such aa a 20' long, 8' high 2002 sprinter van with single stage chaulky paint, faster though not better results are highly needed just to get it done.

I think there is more technology left on the table as far as lubricants & finer/faster cutting abrasives in compounds and we all know time is money.

i have not used chemical guys. a couple years ago when shine mentioned them i decided to give them a call, email or something to that effect. told them i was using 3m perfect-it compound. gave them the 3m #. asked if they had anything comparable to that. they said yes...i said great. i looked it up on their site and it cost just as much if not more than the 3m. since that time, like i said 3m came out with the ex version and that is even better than their original version. to date the ex is the best compound i have used.

Jim you should really try the Chemical Guys compound. I took Shines advice and will not look back the pad spray and Hexlogic pad worked really nice and I'm not one for foam pads. If your on the fence jump and try it I think you will like it as much as I do and the excess slop washes off real easy too.

I will be due for some foam cutting pads pretty soon so when I order those I'll get a test bottle and compare to the 3m

i recommend getting the sampler kit for 22.00 . 4 40z bottles and they will do a car. as long as your sanding is right. the 16 oz bottles are 25 .00 3m is close to 50.00 . it is personal preference when you get down to it .

Yep, I agree with how far it goes (4-4oz) I used only the 2 grits you said to also. I did my whole truck cab and front end and have enough left over to do it 2 more times at least with those 2 grits. Your recommendation was spot on. The pad spray really helped too.

the pads look pretty nice. i will order a couple of those and the sampler when the time comes. a little price comparing though, the chemical guys is still quite a bit more expensive than 3m. if its better then i dont mind. if its the same then it wouldnt make sense

noticed cg had the 16 oz on sale today for 17.99 . wish i was ready for some more.
watch for a sale where they give a free bottle of pad lube .
