sooo.... I am finishing up the last little bits on my project.

One of these being the dome light - simple right? Well, apparantly the screws I had in the pack were longer than the factory ones and I managed to put a nice dimple/bulge dead center in the roof - like 1/16th and it looks like a zit. I am so pissed off right now I can't even speak.

The only thing I can think of now is that I have to tap it down and block it out and do a blend repair but I have no idea how to go about this so it won't show. I can't get my camera to get a picture of it so it shows but it is pretty self explanatory.

I though I was done begging for the free expert advice here but......help!

Maybe I can help you out and take this car off your hands so you no longer have to worry about it, but in seriousness if you did not crack the paint could it possibly be "paintless dent removal"? My buddy did a similar thing to a 69 camaro, full resto and many sleepless nights during the paint and assembly stages the he put a bolt thru the spoiler, shit happens sorry to hear.

if you produced that you can fix an ant sized slip. dont let it eat you up, thats a well done project!

OH that thing is beautiful! I did the same thing with an interior screw to the rear rocker on the 57 12 years ago, looks like I could tap it in and be done but chickened out and just left it.

I like the above advice find a longtime pro that does dent-less, they have plastic thingy that will take care of that and odds are will not even need to be buffed and a similar deal I saw cost the guy $50, I would not get the sand paper or paint gun out for that!.

I feel your pain, I really do. As I said before, I love that car and it's perfect in my eyes. The trouble with fixing damage like that (for me anyway) is running the risk of making other problems. I'd try the paintless repiar first also.

I know exactly how you feel. I let suff like that keep me up at night. It's happened to everyone in one way or the other. Paintless dent repair does sound like a good idea.

Thanks for the replies. I called the dentless guy today, hopefully he can do something. He said that sometimes because the screw point is so sharp it stretches the metal and they can't do anything about it?? I don't know, guess I will wait and see what he says when he sees it. There is only one of these guys in my area and he didn't sound real enthusiastic, I think he is really all about the dealership stuff.

I wish this was something I could live with but it is really front and center and since everything else is so nice it really sticks out, I will see it every time I get in the car so I am going to have to do something about it. I almost cried when I saw what I had done.......

Find a dentless paint repair tech in your area. Ask local dealers. The tech might be able to knock it down for you.

That sucks. There's one thing for certian-eventually the car will have damage of some sort, chips, scratches, dings...but the sad part is it happened so early. If the PDR guy doesn't get it done we can walk you through the proper proceedures in blending out the repair area and doing a clear blend or you can clear the complete roof and quarters. Either way it's no fun, but I wouldn't live with it damaged like that.

Pretty much sums up where I'm at. If it was a ding on the rocker or something like that I would just move on but I can't live with the big mole on the roof - I swear to god it is like 4' tall (the pic doesn't show it well). It bums me out every time I look at the car.

The good news is I think I finally found a pdr guy about 60miles from me that I sent a pic to and he says he can fix it guaranteed - crossing my fingers. Even if it isn't absolutely perfect as long it doesn't jump out at me it's OK. Like everyone said, the car will get driven and chips etc are inevitable.

Once again this forum saves me. I resisted the temptation to get out my hammer and dolly until I threw my dilemma out there to you guys, I had never even heard of pdr until a few days ago.

Thanks everyone!

There are some you tube videos of PDR and its amazing what they can do. If the tools weren't $1600+ I would give it a try. In fact, I have had some success using 2x4s LOL

Blazerman,

I think you are in for a pleasant surprise. I had a pretty good experience with a Dent King franchise four years ago. My wife returned from a shopping trip and pulled the car in the garage. I had been working on my 72 Corvette, (up on jackstands) in the next bay and left the driver door open. Coming in from the bright sunlight, she didn't see the open door and the passenger mirror caught it. Mirror broke off and the Corvette door wedged into the PT Cruiser, leaving a sharp foot-long vertical crease. Could have been worse -- the 72 Vette didn't fall off the jackstands into the 87 Corvette parked next to it. I replaced the mirror but thought I would have to live with the crease. Took it to the Dent King paintless dent repair shop.

The repair took a couple of hours and here's what it looks like four years later.

Yeah, I had heard of this stuff but never checked into it. After watching about 2 hours of you tube videos last night I was amazed at what they can do. Kinda wierd that good pre-paint metal work is so hard to get done and these guys can do what they do?? Anyway, now that I know I have a pretty good chance of getting my screw up fixed without a ton of redo I feel much better about the situation. Told my wife it must be allergies while I was wiping my eyes :)

The secret to the pdr dent removal is they can usually hide their work within the oem texture of the paint, when there isn't enough texture in the paint I've seen them color sand and buff. Blazerman, you did two rounds of clear on this car right? If the PDR tech can knock the high spot down to within range of completing the job with some sanding and buffing he'll be able to pull it off. It's amazing to watch a good PDR tech work.

Judging from the picture blazerman a good pdr guy should be able to get that to damn near perfection.
