Bare Metal Prep for Epoxy, Sandpaper?

I'm probably over thinking this, but maybe not. I would rather ask now vs later. I had to take some edp off my door skins due to rust. Sanded them down to the metal. I have sanded and sanded the metal with a da using 6 inch stikit 80 grit paper. I was using the 3m gold but ran out and I have some Norton gold. I even went and bought another pack of the 3M. I still can't get the metal as clean as I would like it. Also the scratch doesn't look as good as I would like it. I have cleaned the metal between sanding with SPI solvent cleaner. Also I have changed the paper out very frequently as well as a final sand. The pics make it look a little better than it is in person.

What da sandpaper would you guys recommend for bare metal? Also let me know If I an overthinking this, but I would think I would want the metal to have a white clean look. Thanks in advance.
