What's strong at Barrett this year? I have a line on 2 muscle cars and was wondering if the investment would be worth it or is that area getting soft.

depends on the car , depends on which show , on what collectors want after several scotches .
so far trucks are high cars flat .

I have watched some of Fridays and Thursdays and I saw about 5, I would have bought, then wife reminded me, you can't see the flaws.
Thurs and Friday are the not so nicely done cars, so to say but they look good on TV. Saw a 1/2 a dozen trucks, I thought were steals for $20,000 to $35,000 but like wife said, its a 25 yard shot.
Hemi clone went good and fast as well as a restro-rod Camaro and a fake W30.
Prices looked down to me but Saturday is the money day, just keep in mind what you can't see, the big dollars are the ones every nut and washer has been touched.

from the mecum auctions i think i sold my truck a little cheap . but then it cost everyone to sale or buy there .

Shine, were you able to make anything on it? If I remember a post of yours you said you were gonna stick to building your own stuff and selling them. I like that idea, just wondering if you are seeing any profit?

I attended an auction there once and there were cars available from projects to trailer queens. ALL of them way over priced, like the food, drinks, and memorabilia. The buyers fee/sellers fee and selling price combine to make one's eyes bulge.
Did I see great cars? Yes but you certainly couldn't get close enough to the high dollar cars to really examine them. Out in the tents and surrounding buildings where the lower priced cars were you could look them over real good.

i did ok on my truck. the next one is a 57 big window which i plan to take to the next level. c4/ls2 . i should do well on it. i just dont want the stress of dealing with some one else car .

I'd rather work on RELIABLE customer cars, and charge by the hour. This way, you know where you are financially, rather than having high hopes on a project and end up getting killed selling it for much less than you originally expected.

Glad to hear you made out OK.

Ideally we all would like that but my reality at least is a little different. In my area there is plenty of "low end" "restoration" (lol) type work to be had but stuff like that is pointless IMO. Been there done that lost my butt on several cars over the years thinking I could make out decent. Working for minimum wage (or less) sucks. The mid range type stuff where you can talk to a potential customer and educate them as to what's actually involved in project and why you need to charge by the hour etc. has really dried up around here. High end type stuff, forget about it unless and until you can garner a reputation and attract customers from outside the local area. That's why the idea of building and selling your own stuff appeals to me.

after 40+ years of having my work critiqued i am done. i can do my own with no stress or delivery dates . i make all the decisions and set my own price. i have many other things to take care of so putting 40-60 hrs a week in the shop is not happening . open end jobs can get ugly and end up costing you in the end.

I understand what your saying completely and more often then not the ones critiquing are the ones that are totally clueless and have absolutely no skill set to justify opening their mouths.

The ones I'm looking at are ones I'm looking to buy and flip but are all correct number matching. I also have my Chevy 383 stroker (450hp) still sitting in the builders bag in the corner of my garage waiting for a vehicle. The 57 Chevy I did and sold went without the motor (he didn't have the money for the motor). So I don't know whether to do one of the 2 originals or look for a 69-70 Camaro
And put my motor in it and make it my own way.

I know when doing a 100% correct car and selling it as such it had better be and alot of work goes into investigating every part and number which can get daunting to say the least and if something is missing or was changed out and/or lost the hunt begins.

I think I'm leaning towards the do one my way.
