Base Coat Question

Just thinking ahead a bit. When it comes time to apply my basecoat I plan on shooting at least 3 coats. If I don't feel I have the coverage I should have and I don't have enough base for another coat can I stop, get more base and apply the last coat the next day? I was planning on waiting to clear coat the next day anyway. If the answer is yes do I need to do anything more than tack rag it?

Thanks again for all your help with my questions.

It would be best to get more base than you think you'll need. But, you'll want to combine the two mixes to overcome any tinting variations.

Tack rag would be ok, just don't touch the parts with bare hands.

I agree. It sounds like you don’t have enough base. Buy more now and combine them as recommended.

Eight ounces per coat per panel is a good estimate to avoid running out.

So I have approximately 220 sprayable ounces of base. Car is a midyear corvette coupe. Color is maroon. I plan on applying 3 coats but would like to have enough for 4 coats if I need it. Door jambs and door edges will get 1 additional coat. It's difficult for me to count panels the way this car is configured. Should I be worried?

I painted a mid year coupe and purchased a gallon of DBC base that was mixed 1:1. Sprayed three coats. Had a little left over which is good.

I had a Milano Maroon 66 coupe. Wish I never sold it.

Wandabase. Mixes 1 part base to 1/2 part reducer. On the small things I've done so far I believe I'm getting good coverage with 3 coats.

I don't mind buying another quart. Hopefully that would be enough.

If I bought another quart (total 6) then I would have 288oz sprayable. You had 256oz with a little left over. That's probably what I should do.

If I activate the base with 1oz activator per 32oz base can the left over base be saved or does it harden in the can?

Thank you Don.

I only add activator one spray cup at a time. No need to activate a couple of gallons of base all at once imo.

I’m always glad when I have leftover base. It’s nice to have sitting on a shelf if a respray of a panel is needed down the road. No color match worries then.

I like Wanda. It's get an extra quart and mix it all together. Like Don said. Good to have a little extra
