Maybe some of you computer guys can post a link to this ad, a cartoon run by Matrix on page 34 in the July issue.
I laughed so hard, could not stand myself, I even email matrix and told them it was great.
In short you have a board room and on the wall profits are going downward.
So at the round table you have 24 and his answer is were just going in circles.
The woman says I Whinda what we going to do? (Wanda paint, Sikkens)
The PPG guy says Lets increase our P rice P er G allon.

tryin to find it but no luck yet. but it does sound funny!
it's kinda funny the big companies are saying that profit is low, yet the last few cans of paint i'v ordered from sikkens have nice, new, more colorful labels on them with the new akzo logo and all. hmmmmmmm sure do have enough profit to revamp all their labels. as if there was something wrong with the previous ones.
*edit*
found it on matrix website in pdf form.

the "what happened to our sales" guy appears to be the akzo nobel guy.

I don't think the waterborne is selling as well as planned for the majors, I see Transtar's compliant solvent color system being tested in shops in this area and people are really liking it. It's really amazing how much money must have been poured into developing the waterborne systems and you all know the paint price increases that you've seen has gone towards the development and marketing. It's a viscious circle for sure....

u dont think? the majority of shops in california are using water. its still cheaper then solvent base.
hell matrix is the worst. there water is over 25% cheaper then there own "compliant solvent base" and there prices have jumped up over the past couple years. funny they would have a cartoon when they "copy" paint. i use their autoglass clear and oem matched base, but still. it makes me laugh.

Not really what I'm hearing, Moses called me from CA last night and the transtar low voc was $325 and all the others were in waterborne were $100 higher and that was just for a dove gray color.
My advice was simple, don't use house paint on a classic or custom job.
There will be another announcement in August-Sept of another major releasing a low VOC solvent base. Why would they do that? What do they know, that we don't? Like he told me two months ago, its the future!
Funny, cost over twice as much to make solvent vs water and the big boys already see the writing on the wall, the future will be solvent, not house paint as they just don't want to compete with Lowe's and Home Depot.
I can see SPI doing a low Voc system.

I wast told that the reason some of the majors are pushing waterborne is because they dont want to overhaul their solvent system to be compliant with the new epa regulations that are coming. somehow its cheaper to push their "new" waterborne that's already been made. not all but some. such as dupont, they have multiple pages of solvent product they have to do something with. not necessarily to be compliant with the rule but so a lot of shops will be compliant with what they are spraying if they already have their system in place. akzo (across the board, sikkens, waterborne, and lesonal) has 1 toner that the epa are calling "target HAPs" that they will eventually phase out by next year. BASF / RM is about the same i believe.
Alot of the above could be ALOT of heresay, as i am not "in the mix" really. Just what i've been hearing lately.

JB,
A lot of truth to what you say, I'm hoping to wait till end and buy one of the left over solvent systems from them and I will convert it to low VOC.
All I need is formulas and the main tints they use.
Voc's scare a lot of formulators but for some reason, I have no problem converting.
I talked to one guy took him three months to convert an existing formula to 2:1, in one hour yesterday I wrote a new formula in 2:1 and made a quart, tested perfect and will spray today.
Must be easier for dumb people as the PHD's, try to get to make it too complicated, LOL.

simple, making a new binder that is sprayable that worth a shit and 0 voc is a bitch.
i could see a major doing a lov voc just for the fact that none of the other major players have one. so they can be the only one to offer both.

All I need is a company that want to make some money on a system they are throwing away, figure that will come about in next year or two.
I want a whole system but about 50 colors would work as a second choice.
Somebody can be bought!!!
