Bought a used Booth, good deal or bad deal?

Hey guys lovin the new forum setup, anyway I found a shop nearby that was shutting the doors and he had a bunch of equipment for sale, a old Devilbiss crossdraft was one the things he was lookin to get rid of. The booth basically had everything I was lookin for to make my own "homemade" booth and I thought just buying this one would be cheaper than building my own and its a certified booth which will help for accreditation, It consists of all the wiring, all the lights and tempered glass, booth filters with extra set of new filters, 3 stage air dryer, tubeaxial fan that can move some serious cfm lol, steel structure in excellent shape no rust dimensions 14w x 26L x 9h, and a fresh air compressor with 2 new masks and thats about all I can think of. Price of the booth was $2000 and I picked up a bunch of other equipment for a total bill of $3000cdn.

What do you guys think, it is dirty but really nice shape I have big dreams now :p 205.JPG

Devilbiss made a nice quality booth. Really solid and everything was really precision fit. Only problem is they went under. Good deal though.

I would say over the last 30 years that was the number one selling booth, great booth, you stole it and it will last a long time, if not forever.

right on boys thtas what I wanted to hear, like mentioned earlier its dirty but all the bottoms are in amazing shape couple areas starting to bubble but I will be repainting the booth and of course I will be putting some SPI epoxy on the bottoms :) Im pretty pumped

I think that is a steal. I'd recommend a (VFD) variable frequency drive which will allow you to control the fan speed with a pot switch. One of the best things I ever did for mine. You don't always need a 30" fan running wide open to shoot a fender. I find the slower I run mine the cleaner the job but I like to run it fast enough to properly clear the booth. Our local body shop has your booth and it moves more air than necessary. Good luck with it.

True. Not sure what model he got and what size fan and power he has in it but the two devilbiss booths that i have seen were way underpowered in that department. I believe they only had a 20 or 24 in fan with a 1.5hp motor. air movement was extremely slow. Not sure if that is a devilbiss trademark or not.

Not exactly sure what size the fan is but it is 24" for sure guessing it is a 30" tho, and yes a variable speed was top of the list for things to do also I already bought a shit load of t8 lights for cheap cause I was going to make my own booth so I will probably get all my ballasts swapped over to the t8's. As far as the fan runnin full blast I find that it can definitely kick up some dust.

The local shop has a 30" and man it is insane. He complains about it and sometimes he just steps in and shoots one coat of clear at a time with the booth off. This is on a hood or fender, not all overs. He is on a budget so he hasn't bought a vfd yet as he is installing a two bay prep station due to the new regulations. I run a 24" fan at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle for my best balance of clean and functionality. It has a lot to do with how clean the exhaust filters are.

Nice booth you got there and for a great price.. Post up pics when you get it all installed

Mine is a 34" with a 3hp motor. Moves a little over 14000cfm which in my crossflow booth it just gets it into the 75-100fpm flow rate that you should have. Definately not crazy movement but adequate. There isnt a breeze or anything like that. I had a 24" on my old booth and it just wasnt enough to properly flow right. The shop down the street has a new downdraft with 4 36" fans powered with 15hp each. Now thats flow!!!

Hey guys I just talked with the owner and he said the fan was 32" or 36". BK Im goin to pick up the booth Monday but because of the height I have a lot of carpentry ahead of me but shouldnt be to bad, I guess I'll make a little build thread of the little shop im getting together.
I actually just came across another deal on a top of the line Devilbiss downdraft(not sure which model) long story but its thru a friend who got in exchange for a lot of labor but with the goal I have set in mind I can accomplish it so no down draft for me lol

Sounds like a good deal for that booth, would love to find something like that someday .Good luck with installation and post pics when you get it up. Joe

Totally rad booth! Great price also.

One thing ive seen many times that cause people airflow problems is exhaust fan ducting.
Sometimes its just not practical, but there is a specific formula for getting the maximum SUCK out of that sucker.
The formula is, 1 x the dia of the fan of straight duct before the fan, and 2 x the dia of the fan of straight duct after the fan.

So in your case, you would want a straight piece of duct 30" long before the fan, and a straight piece of duct 60" long after the fan before you make any turns.

Picked up the booth yesterday and wow what a long day and there was a good 20years of dust on there lol but considering 20yrs of dust build up it wasnt even that bad. 34" devilbiss fan is what it is and man I cant get over how excellent the shape of the booth is I think I put some of the only flaws in it while loading. 327amc the fan is gonna sit right above the 2 exhaust towers and exit straight thru the roof with no bends at all.

I have about a month and a half to try and haul ass and get some stuff in order.
