I apologize first off as I'm new to automotive painting all together.
Currently I'm restoring the rubberized underbody coating in each of my wheel wells as they have small rust areas here and there that I want to stop before they become a major problem not to mention a road noise issue.
I have stripped the wheel well completely including seam sealer down to bare metal, but my question is whether or not I can just mix the primer and paint it on using a brush and roller. I'm planning on using a Epoxy Primer, then Primer Sealer, and finishing off with 3M Schutz. I realize that brush and roller may introduce particles to the primer but in the end this will be covered up using Schutz.
My worry is whether or not this will cause the primer to ultimately fail.
My other option was to spray it using a HVLP paint gun, however my issue is where the upper shock mount is would require me to spray upside down in order to get all the areas. Not to mention I doubt I have the scratch for the proper equipment required as my current air compressor tends to produce a pretty hefty amount of condensation do to the temperature and humidity of the area and putting the car on a rotisserie is not really an option.
Anyone have any suggestions or insight?
Thanks!
