Chassis top coat

I have a new TCI frame that I am going to shoot two coats of SPI black epoxy on. What would be your suggestions on a good chassis black to shoot for the final finish?

Leave it in epoxy, Unless you need higher gloss or a different color.

When the epoxy is cured, there is NO paint in this side of the business that is as stone chip or chemically resistant.
In other words, unless you need a certain look, you are wasting monety, time and going backwards.

Just spray the epoxy on the frame and see, before you make a decision. Everyone who sees the frames I do that way is impressed, they want to know what I use. I just say, "epoxy," they would never believe it was a primer, so I don't say so!

I just shot my TCP rear end housing with Black Epoxy. It looks awesome, I plan on shooting the rest of the undercarriage and engine bay the same way.

Thank you Barry! Thats what I will do. I believe i will put 3 coats of epoxy primer and leave it at that.

So are we talking about basic Epoxy primer in Black? Nothing else I need to know before ordering it?

The only thing you might want is some SPI reducer if you want to adjust the gloss level of the epoxy.

You'll need Epoxy + Activator, and then like was mentioned you could use reducer to change look if you want. There's quite a bit of info here on the site that will help you make your mind up.

The first coat on bare metal should ideally be unreduced for maximum protection, after that it is OK to use reduced coats to achieve desired gloss.

I painted this Dana 60 housing with unreduced epoxy a few years ago and it still looks the same today. (note: the hubs are in HotRod Flatz SS and dusty)
Control arms, K-member, torsion bars etc. are painted with SPI black epoxy as well.

I took Barry's advice on this and I used the black epoxy on my 65 vet frame and all components. it looks great! I even used it on my flat bed trailer over the diamond plate. VERY DURABLE and best of all, easy to touch up.
