Clarity with pearls

I was talking to my painter and I have to do multiple layers and pearls in my paint job. So Here the question I use a lot of sem lightening fx which is a ice pearl. All my previous jobs have bee just one pearl. This paint job will have two different pearls. Will the intercoat need more pearl to get the same results as say me mixing my pearl into universal in my coat. The one thing I have been scared of is the intercoat not being clear or it eating or needing more pearl to get the same results. I know this may be weird but I did the best I can for a crazy car guy lol.

someone more technically experienced can answer but i say when in doubt, test panels usually answer all!

im not exactly sure what it is you are asking? you would not need more pearl in intercoat than you would anything else to achieve the same effect. the intercoat dries clear.

Yeah pretty much does the pearl appear the same in intercoat as it does in regular clear. Or would the intercoat require more pearl to get the same effect.

I will vouche that intercoat is awesome. I have done some ghosted effects over total paint jobs and got excellent results. I am currently considering something a bit more ambtitious along these lines as I type.

OK,
I am game. This is an Acura I saved from the junkyard. It was hit hard low on the drivers side and totalled by an insurance company. Bit more than 100K on the clock nice interior but it the factory color was gold. I was unemployed at the time and did a color change. I used OMNI white base (championship white IIRC)(the LAST time I used OMNI BTW) and then 2 coats of SPI intercoat clear with ghost pearl addditive in silver and shimmer Blue pearl from paintwithpearls.com. Finally 2 coats of SPI UV clear then finish sanded nibs and a bit of peel and buffed. $100 in OMNI Base 1/2 gallon of SPI intercoat clear and $10 worth of dry pearl additives.

Awfully hard to see but here is what I came up with on the mirror (subtle effect until in direct sunlight OR nightime sodium light)

Natural Light, quarter

Rear of the car in the sun. . .again subtle was the goal

Total cost of getting car out of junkyard, paint, framework (I subbed this out) and re-title and inspection $3850 (includes first tank of gas)

I have put 30K on this car and it is comfy and I look forward to having it for years to come. It now has a good many door dings etc. from being a DD. Someday I may repaint it, who knows.

Bob,

That woudl be funny execpt for the fact that at 4:00 in the morning I ran into lightning patterned base coat lifting and did sand a good bit off. NO that stuff is Central PA snow in very early January two years ago. I am not looking forward to it this year either!!

You Florida boys cannot realate unless at one time you were a snowbound Yankeee??

Spent the first half of my life up there (too much of it under that white stuff). Because of the terrible cold winters we've suffered recently, I just ordered a new heater for my garage. I bought the blower a couple of years ago and decided to add the furnace this year.
