Collision Repair (Mustang Fender Blocking?)

So I'm repairing a fender on my daughters 2010 Mustang. The previous owner hit one of those shopping cart return post in a parking lot. It actually came out pretty decent with a hammer and dolly, not perfect, but ok. I got it the best I could within a 1/16 or less. Next I sanded everything with 80 grit on a da, then took an 80 grit on a roloc for some of the small lows. Next I applied 2 coats of SPI red epoxy. The next day I put down a coat of rage over the epoxy. What a mess I made with that, but I'm getting better at it. lol. Tonight I started sanding and its turning out ok ( I think) lol . One thing that I'm concerned about it the crown in the fender lip. When I check the other side, you can definitely see that the panel has a slight crown in it with a straight edge. I'm not sure how I will duplicate this crown blocking in such a small area? Right now it looks more flat to me. My main concern is getting the body line straight and I purchased one of those pencil tools that rides along the fender lip. Maybe I shouldn't worry as much about the crown as long as its straight and uniform. I still got more blocking to do and maybe it will take shape with more blocking. Any advice, I'd appreciate it. Thanks

Very true lol. I think I will re guide coat and continue to block ever so slightly with 180. The metal showing could just be a slight high spot that needs tapping down. I have metal showing at the front but that's all factory. I still need to blend in the rear area too.

As long as the bodyline around the top is correct that's all you really can worry about IMO. That's all the eye is going to be drawn to. Trying to replicate that very slight crown is going to be very difficult in filler and you'll end up spending far more time than is really needed. As thin as this metal is on these cars I'd wager to say that the slight crown you are seeing is possibly different from car to car.

I do, for my 72 and 81 Camaro projects. I haven't done much on those since covid hit and then my daughter bought this 2010 Mustang. This has been a good time though and has got her out in the garage turning wrenches. My channel is Double R Restorations, but don't let the name fool ya, I'm not a business just a hobbyists lol. Hopefully once this Mustang is done I can get back to my Camaro. Lol

That's what I'm thinking, get the body line right and make sure the rest is straight.

I've commented on some of your videos! I just noticed the background and your home setup. I dig it!

Awesome Thank you. I've been very blessed to have this space. It was my wife's idea to build the third bay to work in. She has been very understanding and supportive. I just do this as a hobby, but wanted to do it for a living when I was young. My dad kinda guided my direction into the electrical field. I grew up in that field. I always wondered if I messed up, but was reading the thread on here about that very same subject. Maybe I didn't. I have enjoyed the electrical field as well.

I had a guy measuring stripes down low on the car - was off by less than a 1/16 of an inch . He pointed it out and asked if I could redo it ( 3 stage pearl ) ! I said NO !!! Told him the same thing - can’t see both sides at the same time
1/16th. Not enough Tylenol in the world for the headache that gives me . . .
