Combine brushing and spraying epoxy - good, bad, indifferent?

I am working on frame and undercarriage and some places will be tougher to spray than others. I have experimented with foam brush, regular brush, and foam roller. I saw a lot of weird brush marks with foam brush and regular brush. The primer seemed to dry as it was applied. A foam roller worked much better, especially on frame areas. I induced overnight. It actually dried fairly smooth. No real texture from the roller.

Alternatively—you can roll on 3 coats and then sand a day or two later—180 grit. It will sand a lot easier when it’s fresh than after it’s fully cured in 3 mo. This is what I’d recommend doing.
if I sand the epoxy 2 to 3 days after applying it, will I need to freshen up the scratches when I eventually spray the remaining coats?
