Could use some help clearing a few things up...

I plan on laying down epoxy over bare steel on a couple cars I'm restoring. I've seen people recommend polyester primer (slick sand specifically) versus the 2K high build primer. Why is this? Could someone clear up the positives and negatives of polyester and 2k for me?
 
If you abuse a 2K urethane it will come back to haunt you, maybe in a week, month, year....you'll see it. Keep your application limited to what the tech sheets spec and don't try to build more than it was designed for. Each has their own benefits but poly is designed to build more per application. JMO
If the bodywork is perfect a person wouldn't need either.
 
What would constitute abuse of a 2K? Just trying to make sure I don't do something I shouldn't! Also, I read something about 2k primer shrinking more, tru?22
