DA for sanding films

For those of you that cut and buff dry, what are you using for DA? I've got a DA polisher but not sure if that would work. I'm wanting to try the dry films because I hate wet sanding.

Ive always hand sanded but supposedly you want to use one with a 3/32 throw as opposed to the 3/16 generally used for bodywork. But idk from experience

I have this one and like it alot. Use it for the Eagle film and 3M Trizact.
Ordered hookit base and interface pad.
Run it about 50% throttled back and 19 CFM compressor only runs 1 minute out of 4.
I've bumped the speed control wide open by mistake and it screams. Would never use it that way.

I sand all my clear dry, been using this RO for over
20 yrs. now. Run it at less than half speed and it
sands clear wonderful.
Can use 5" or 6" pads
I use the 3M purple films, 1500 and 2000
if I want to go finer, I seldom do, I use
Mirka foam discs, 3000 or 4000

Do you go straight to compounding after 2000?

For normal collision repair I do go straight to compounding after 2000.
It buffs out really fast.
For a high end finish I sometimes go to 3000 but I really don't see a difference
it just seems to reduce the spots I miss when I use only 2000
and it buffs faster.

3/16 orbit on the sander. 3/32 is a waste.

i stop dry sanding at 1500 then do 2500 wet with a da (blue bufflex) then just go straight to compound and polish unless the clear has sat for a few days. if so then i will go from 2500 to 8000 trizact then the compounding is super quick
