Deltron prices

Anyone know where to get a better price on deltron? I have two places locally that sell it. I need a ppg color thats just called bright red(dbc-74000). For 2 quarts they want $965(or 1725 a gallon). I need this to match what is on the car now or I would go with something else. I know I'm probably stuck but just thought I would ask the question. Thanks

Tell them your Charley Hutton. :p That'll get you a big discount.
Seriously though, DBC is out of this world pricey. Oh and there os no guarantee that what you get will match. Depends on how accurate the mix was the first time and this time as well. Don't expect to be able to panel paint and have it match perfectly. It won't, I promise you that.
You will have to blend. So that opens up other manufacturers. Wanda, Motobase are two options that are as good as DBC but half the price.

Yeah, it's always possible the match would be close, but to assume one could panel paint would not be a wise idea. That price is even way over what I can get Standox for, and I would take Standox over Deltron any day.

Charley Hutton, or Donny Hutton? :D

I don't need to panel match. I'm respraying the whole exterior, I'm just not redoing under the hood, bottom of trunk lid, ect. Would Wanda or motobase be able to mix a ppg color using the dbc paint code?

Yeah ppg is out of control. Unfortunately it’s about all we have available locally. Oh and valspar at Napa lol. Almost drives me mad enough to get my own bank even though I don’t really need it. Suppose I could sell some to the rest of my buddies that complain about the same thing?

Short answer would be yes. I'm not familiar with that DBC number. What is it from? Do you have a OEM paint code that you got that PPG number with. Is it the original color on your vehicle? As long as it's not a custom mixed PPG color you will be able to get something in another brand. Even if it is custom mixed, most jobbers have a color camera that they can match the color with.

That's not a hard problem for a competent jobber. Ask them for sprayout cards, too. Then when you get your color, spray one (clear coat it, too) and see if it's a close enough match. If not, they should work with you to correct it at no charge.

What other jobbers you have in the area? Do any carry the Sikkens line? I just did a gallon of Victory Red using the Sikkens Imperium to shoot a 98 Suburban and only used 1/2 gal and it cost less then $350 for the gallon of base. Would have covered in 1 coat if I wanted it to used SPI to reduce it worked great and I could have panel painted it too it was that spot on. The only thing is you need a part to take with you and compare it to the color decks and there is a Shit ton of choices take it outside to match up the deck with the part.

It’s not an oem color. When I was picking out a color 20 years ago I looked through the ppg book and picked one of their colors. I do still have the can with the label that has the tinting info. I sent Chad at auto rod an email about it too.

I needed. a perfect color match for a bumper for a 2015 Hyundai Elantra (Korean built) paint code ZU3. Its a dark blue with a lot of pearl in it. I have not been to the PPG store here in PA since May 2020.

The guy charged me $270 for a PINT of Deltron DBC. He said they won't mix anything less than a pint. Is that how much PPG jobbers are charging for paint today? He claimed the reason it was expensive was that the color was a code K. I did not haggle at the time about it, but I wonder if the prices have gone up by 3X or 4X what they used to be pre-pandemic. He said code "N" was lowest, about $171 a pint. "Z" is $422 a PINT. H, K, T and SC vary.

I can't make any profit with those prices. The reason I have always used PPG is that if none of the variants were a match they would use the camera and it would wind up being a good match.

This is list prices on axalta chromapremier from last April. The prices have went up since then. Any of the better basecoats are pricey. I rarely have color match issues in my collision shop.

Thanks! So now I know I am not crazy.

NAPA has a paint store near here that I usually use and I would get PBT (Tech Base. . . solvent base). It just so happened that when I went there last week I had the wrong paint code and it was way off. I had the correct paint code (luckily) when I went later to the PPG store, and I had a gas door with me, and the color was spot on.

I've used the paint from Napa years ago and the coverage and color match weren't great by any means. For a complete paint job it would work, but the matches were terrible for me. That could also come from the accuracy of the pours when mixing the color as well.
