door edges...

Not sure were to post this.

What is everyone doing for edges, ive read some take down edges to bare steel before sealing.

If so why and how, other than to keep mil down to prevent chiping.

Ive had edges to bare steel in the past and im not to happy with epoxy adhesion, unless I go around doors with a piece of 80 grit, and the epoxy is a few weeks old. But using 80 grit before I seal with epoxy seems like taking steps backwards.

Im just curios, to me edges are alway the most neglected areas, and are always the first to chip or get damaged just trying to keep everything consistant.

Unless you have very tight gaps between panels and the door edges are not chipped up or missing paint, I see no real reason to be sanding them down to bare metal. I make sure my panel is sanded well, and I usually run around all the edges with a olded piece of my sandpaper before doing the flat outside (or inside surface). I see no real benefit in sanding those door edges down to bare metal. You shgouldn't have that much of a build up of paint materials there to concern yourself with. As i mentioned, unless your gaps are very tight. This is one area I always check before I ever poaint, is my gaps.

Just make sure there isn't a lot of surfacer build on the edges or bodyfiller and you'll be fine.
