I have an older delivery van, and the lower metal coolant tube has rusted and is leaking. I bought a new replacement one that comes with the same coating as the original, which doesn't last long before rusting. I am going to sandblast off the factory coating and give it 3 coats of epoxy primer. My question is whether or not I should prime the area where the rubber hose clamps, or leave it bare metal. I remember an issue I had years ago with the heat and antifreeze softening the paint i had put on a fitting I made, which allowed the hose to slip off under pressure. My homemade tube at that time did not have a bead rolled into it though, which would have stopped it from popping off.
