Epoxy only?

I am painting a fresh bumper that has nothing on it. I shaved a piece of an it floated so I am going to use an adhesion promoter. Do I need to use a flex additive?

This is what I plan on doing:

Day1: Adhesion promoter, then 2 coats of epoxy
Day2: Touch up epoxy if needed, then spray my chromabase followed by 2 coats of universal clear.

Does anyone see and problems with that?

Thanks

Your technique sounds just right, though someone who uses Chromabase might be able to tell you if there is something that will give the base extra flexibility, like the addition of a small amount of activator. Universal needs no flex additive, it is very flexible already. Same with SPI epoxy.

You've pretty much nailed it.

Perfect advice! Just ad one ounce of any clear activator to a mixed quart of base, it don't get no better then that!

Cool. Thanks for the clear activator advice.
I always get nervous and like to double check my steps when I haven't sprayed in a while.

Allow me to offer a different approach.. If the bumper is new and fresh, there is no reason to add that much epoxy on it.. Seriously..

Why not just use a seal coat of epoxy and then base and clear

Food for thought.. It is how I treat a new fresh bumper as do most on here..

If the bumper has been stripped, then 2 coats of epoxy would be great and I would also sand it with 600 wet before I based and cleared the next day..

Happy spraying
