Epoxy over weld through primer

Just a quick question. I am in the process of building a goose neck tail gate. I am planning on welding a couple of metal silhouettes over some square stock. My question is if I use weld through primer where the silhouettes lay on the square stock will the epoxy stick to the weld though, or is there a better way of doing this. Thanks for your advise.

If you use weld through primer remove any that's exposed on the exterior before you spray your epoxy. The weld through primer is a really weak 1K product that should only remain in the seams. If you're lapping the sheet steel over some square stock and if you don't plan to weld it solid you should really use some urethane seam sealer on the joint after the epoxy then shoot another coat of epoxy over the sealer before paint. Weld through primer is really over-rated IMO.

I agree with Bob on the weld through primer. if your silhouettes are only decorative then I would consider a good metal bonding adhesive.
