Epoxy questions , first timer on bare materials

P

Phoenix

These questions are for the very first coat on bare metal and bare fiberglass.

Ive sprayed epoxy once on my subframe with 1:1:0 , came out nice , looks like powdercoat lol, maybe it was too much. I wasn't aware of the reducing process.

1-I didn't buy the spi reducer , can I replace it with other brands? If so , which ones works best? Is cheap acetone can do it?

2- Is 2 year old epoxy works as good? or its a big no-no?

3-is the 1:1:1 mix standard for a first coat?

4-What happens if I spray and let the parts sits for a couple months before filler/further steps? Barry told me to use filler within a certain time , im guessing for adhesion , but what if its completely dry , would I have the same adhesion?

5-For PT plastic bumpers I got spi adpro, on the bottle it says 2 coats before epoxy , but I saw barry say one coat , wait 15 mins then spray something else, can I use that trick?

thanks

no need to reduce epoxy unless you're spraying it as a sealer before paint, the reducer just helps you apply a thin slick coat
2 year old epoxy will be fine if you can mix it well
For the best adhesion use filler over fresh epoxy with no need to scuff if done within a few days. After epoxy is a few days old you should sand it with 180 before applying filler.

Spi reducer is the best but i have used ppg in a pinch and had no problem, just stay with high quality reduces
