Evercoat vs Slicksand, vs Clauser Z-Chrome

I have only used two. Slicksand and Featherfill, both made by Evercoat. I know everybody has different opinions, but I like the Slicksand. I think it sanded better, build was more and overall liked it better. The featherfill sprayed easier, but to me very hard to sand. JMO.

I've used "all u need", sandy Both causen. I liked all u need better of those 2.

Evercoat I've used slick sand, feather fill, super build 4:1 and finish sand 4:1. Finish sand 4:1 was my fav of the evercoats I've tried. Most spray poly forms a tacky skin that clogs paper when you start blocking. The 4:1's from evercoat dont. (the superbuild clogs paper a little bit, but the finish sand 4:1 does not, at all)

Seems like a lot of guys like Feather G2, I've not tried it yet. I got hooked on the 4:1's, they lay so flat and sand so nice. But they stink worse than the others, even after cured and sanding. It's very different, almost reminds me of military grade crowd control smoke... lol.

yeah i have always used the g2. i gave the superbuild a shot when it came out and i instantly went back to g2. the superbuild sanded like a rock. g2 was much better. the have a new one now called fiberfill or something. it has glass fibers in it. adds strength i guess and supposed to be more chip resistant. its also dtm and meets all those salt spray tests but from what my buddy said it sanded hard as well. really i have never had a problem with g2 so i am just gonna stick with that. works great every time.

I am a Clausen Rust Defender guy.. I really like that stuff. I've tried a few others but always go right back to the Clausen line.

I tried superbuild once and didn't care for it either. I felt I couldn't lay it as flat (spray), the build din't seem much greater than finish sand, and it didn't sand as nice as finish sand. All are supposed to be DTM. I've not tried fiber fill, I had it in my mind that it could be a good product for fiberglass work (corvettes), but not something I'd use on steel bodies. Finish sand is my current fav. You really like G2, how is it for that for the initial sanding? does it have a typical spray poly sticky skin?

I used to use clausen products. They used to make a filler called gold rush, I got one good can, then I got 2 bad cans... I don't think they make it any more.

I think I still have a partial can of filler, think it was Z-something. I want to say Z grip but that's evercoat.

So "rust defender" is a poly?

I may have to try it and G2.

watch out on the dtm thing. they used to be all dtm some years back. not anymore. evercoat suddenly changed their tech sheets. there are 2 different superbuilds if i remember right. one of them and the fiberfill stuff are the only two i am aware of that are still dtm. evercoat is so flighty. they tell you one thing, people have problems, they deny it to the end, change what they said in the sheets and wont admit anything. personally i cant stand ecoat as a company. they are weasles and i hate using the couple products that i do get of theirs. just read the tech sheet closely and keep a copy because its your only proof if you ever have a problem. of course you could have it in writing and they would still deny it. lol

Actually the reason I brought this up was based on a you tube video of a guy who builds custom hot rods and show cars. He swears by the Clausen Rust Defender.

billy dawson at corvette corrections has been using the rust defender for years. i use slicksand but really think they are pretty equal. some may sand different. i use only dte primers .

Without putting a lot of effort into it, it kinda seems the Clausen rust defender Z-Chrome runs about $125/gallon vs $100/gallon for Slicksand.

I've used the g-2 several times in the past. Other than smell it's done a great job for me. Particularly for something like the final smoothing out of a rough fiberglass part, it gives you a lot of result per time spent versus slathering on more filler. Does seem to add a little stability to a rough fiberglass part. The other thing I like is that it lays down with a slightly dull textured coating, which acts as it's own guide coat when sanding.

I did a bit of online research a few years ago after first seeing the claussin on trucks show. The general though was that they were pretty similar, which many similar products are.

There ya go shine, some beer cans to practice welding with that henrob you put on the shelf.

just an fyi to dave, these are all polyesters and all are iso free. iso is for polyurethanes

Thank you.

How about 2k urethane primers?

(sorry for the off topic)

I have not seen Hamm's Beer since I was a kid and thats been many years ago. Are they truly still making it? I always loved those beer bear commercials.
