I have a fresh air system with over the face hood, Tyvek full body suit, and gloves for Base/Clearcoat. What do you guys use when spraying and sanding SPI Epoxy Primer and SPI 2K Primers?

Would like to be using a supplied air system but presently only use a typical cartridge style respirator when painting, but all my painting is done in a booth so ventilation is good. When dry sanding anything from paint to various primers and body filler I always wear a 2 strap N95 rated dust mask. Mainly 3M 8211.

What kind of respirator? Do you use the same respirator for SPI Epoxy and SPI 2K Primers, SPI Base/Clear?

The N95 is the mask and the 8211 is the filters? The cartridge style respirator is something different than the N95 and 3M 8211?

In your question, 8211 is the part #, and N95 refers to 95% efficiency for 3M disposable masks. "P" has resistance to oil particles. "N"= not resistant to oil.

I'm just an amateur, so I hope I have this correct. P95 refers to the particulate size for the filters (95%). The half mask or full mask charcoal cartridge filters have the P95 filter pad over them to catch particles / absorb overspray. For dust, sanding and grinding, I use a half mask with P100 filters in leu of charcoal cartridges. I have only sprayed epoxy, and I use the full face with charcoal activated cartridges and the P95 filter cover. If I had a fresh air, I would use that instead.

Amazon has good prices

Thanks MX, I have the fresh air mask but its such a pain in the ass to drag that hose around and I was wanting to try something a little more convenient. I can tell you the fresh air mask is pretty awesome when you must have it. Its just cumbersome, but I guess you cant put a price on your health. I know one thing about ISO's, they enter thru moist tissue, like in eye balls. I see so many guys painting in booths with no eye protection. Thats scary to me, but I only an ameture too. I just read the label on the SPI High Build 2k Primer and it says contains "ISO's, so at least going to put on the fresh air to spray it.

I do the same.

If the face shield is a problem for you, you can use a 3M half mask connected thru their hoses to a fresh air system. I used to use that at my old job, and will be using as soon my system is set up properly ( previous shop owner installed the intake outside 3 feet away from the paint booth exhaust!).
