Factory Five '33 hot Rod Build

You are very innovative with things like the door latches, your hood hinges, etc.. I'm very impressed with the whole package, not just the body work / paint.

Thanks guys,

The silver was interesting to spray, there are couple of areas that didn't lay out quite right, but they are only noticeable if the light hits it just right.

What I didn't realize was this color doesn't have a clear reflection, I'm assuming it becuase the heavy metallic scatters the reflection. I got scared at first, but went out to my DD that's also a metallic silver and it has the same kind of foggy reflection (not that a Ford is a good benchmark).

I'm debating my sanding/ flowcoat process. Did you use 320 dry after trying it on that t-bird?

If you are referring to the clear, I didn't sand either w/ 320.

On the Tbird, I used 1000 buy hand w/ a soft block just to take out the minor orange peel. Then I used 1500 and 3000 on an orbital, then buffed. I was very happy with how it came out, and didn't notice any urethane wave to worry about.

I did the same with the hot rod, but after a couple panels realized the urethane wave was pretty noticeable, so I went back and hard blocked w/ 600 to level, then 1000 by hand and followed up w/ the 1500, 3000 and buff.

Both cars had 3 coats of UV clear, but the Tbird was done in March when the temperature was much cooler and that may have made some difference, not sure.

Thanks for the reply. I must have you confused with the guy that did a 57 chevy in the same exact color. Both cars looked amazing!

So you can get all the thane wave out with one session of clear? I can't decide how to do it. We are talking black, if that matters.

Spray 3 coats, block with P400.. Same as the old Cami Scale 320.. Then re coat with 2 coats of clear.. Go from there.. Should be almost wave free if not when you get to that point

A couple weeks before I was done, I heard Factory Five was looking for a customers car for the Good Guys Columbus show. I contacted them and told them I would not be done in time, but I was planning being at the Syracuse Nationals if they needed a car for that show. They contacted me a week later and said they would like to have it at thier booth so we made the arrangements and I drove it the 3 hrs to Syracuse and it was on display for the whole show. They were a great bunch and I had an awesome time.
