Filler over epoxy outside of 7-day window

If my sheet metal has a couple coats of SPI epoxy on it already and has been sitting for a couple months in the garage, is there much to gain my spraying on a fresh coat of epoxy before I start with my Rage Gold? Is the filler going to adhere that much better with the fresh epoxy over just scratching the areas to be filled with some 120?

Hand sand area with 120-180 and you are ready to go, do not use a DA under the filler.

Thanks Barry. My time is so limited on when I can work on the car that just scratching the epoxy and applying filler is gonna save time. Just didn't know how much there was to gain by applying fresh epoxy first.

Sometimes sanding in rough or damaged areas is hard to accomplish without breaking through the epoxy, which would defeat the purpose of epoxy over filler. I recommend following sanding with a red Scotchbrite pad to degloss any remaining areas not touched by sandpaper.

I guess I'm having a little trouble understanding why a da would even be an option. He mostly wants to sand the areas that are not flat, so he can apply filler, how can a da do that?

Where did you read that the areas that are to be sanded aren't flat??

Irregular areas can be difficult to sand with a DA and there's more chance of removing a lot of epoxy if you're not careful, just make sure it's scratched up good if it's out of the recoat window, the adhesion will be good if done properly.

I use those course sanding sponges. They are flexable enough scuff up the low spots without removing the epoxy on the high spots.
