Interesting. "Presta" just called me back as I was writing this, and they were actually "Malco", which is the parent company. The rep told me that the Presta products target body shops, the Malco products target detailers, and that the products are "similar", produced in the same factory, but not exactly the same (which might mean different formulations, or just different packaging, but he led me to believe it was the formulations. In this case the product could be identical but they're targeting different markets as you suggest, and you may have first hand knowledge of that.) He mentioned that Malco's "True Grit" for instance, is the counterpart to Presta's "Ultra Cutting Compound", but did not give me specific comparisons beyond that, except that they have a Malco polish and a Malco swirl remover as well.Presta is the same as MALCO just without the fancy package.
You're right - that thread covers a lot of ground. I'll have some time tonight to take a closer look at it.http://www.spiuserforum.com/index.php?threads/cutting-compounds.5417/
Covers a bit of everything. I just checked trial pack price of chem guys V32 34 36 38 on Amaz-- and it doubled since i got mine, screw that.
I had great results with all i mention in thread. Also did yrs ago with presta chroma 2000 but never gave it the glass cleaner test.
Hey, just because we offer an opinion doesn't mean anyone is obliged to listen. It's not like he insulted you or something. I thought old critters were supposed to have thick hides?if your too damn cheap to spend 21.99 for 4 4oz bottles of compound then use river mud and a red rag. i wish i had just kept all my opinions to myself . i wont make that mistake again .
Is this response directed toward me? I'm just trying to learn stuff. I'm trying to be polite by acknowledging inputs from everyone. I haven't chosen any product. Please clarify.if your too damn cheap to spend 21.99 for 4 4oz bottles of compound then use river mud and a red rag. i wish i had just kept all my opinions to myself . i wont make that mistake again .
Your technique is very similar to mine just with different products.I’ll admit - I have a hard time getting the previous scratches out . I always seem to find 1000 grit or 1200 grit after I’m done —-so - my system cheats probably. I start with a wool pad at about 2800 RPM With presta “super cut”. After that I use another wool pad and take Jim C’s advice and use Sonax cutmax then after that a white chemical guys pad with #36 then black pad and # 38 ( if it’s a dark car) or straight to # #38 with black pad after the Sonax if it’s a light colored car. Sounds like a lot of steps but after the Presta super cut it goes fast
You've got it rockin' there!Your technique is very similar to mine just with different products.
Twisted wool pad and M-100 (previously used M105 but the M100 works more like the CG products and cuts much better)
Lake Country foam pad and CG v34 (previously used M205)
Lake Country foam pad and Menzerna FF3800
This gets me real close to perfect.
