Finished blocking and buffing Holy Cow!

P

Pops Shop

We finished blocking the Universal Clear. Started with 400 and went through the diffrent grits up to 3000. Then buffed. What a difference blocking with 400 first makes. It is like glass and no wave. This is one of the best of a number of tips I've received from Andy during a phone call a couple of weeks ago. I saw another car that was done by a national chain and I thought I was in a parade from all the waves going on.

Thanks again SPI and all those here on this site

how many coats of clear?

no two for the entire car. That's 5 or 6 passes. I use an Iwata LPH400 with the silver cap for the clear. The purple cap was used for the base. It has a ton of small metallics. No motteling. Another tip from SPI regarding activators and base.

Thanks it's Azure Turquoise. It's the original color.

Looks great ! You can't go wrong listening to the advice Barry and the crew st SPI and on this forum give :)

Thanks guys. I went to a "professional" restoration shop on Saturday as part of a group of car people. I couldn't believe the orange peel, urathane wave, sanding marks etc that wre in these cars.

I do have a question and if someone can direct me to a post that would be reat but what are the best waxes for the SPI Universal Clear? I have a car we painted a couple of years ago that is coming in to be detailed.

Thanks
Tim

Pops,

I'm very partial to Collinite 845. It goes on easy, wipes off easy, lasts incredibly long and water rolls off like a 1000 ball bearings. As a matter of fact, I'm about hit dad's new truck again this week for the 2nd time.

And to be clear, its not fresh paint safe.

You dont want to spend too much time ripping apart the work you see. You never know the check that was written for the job. IMO, sanding and polishing something glass flat is extra and some people just dont want to pay for it. Just sayin.

Oh I'm not ripping apart the work but for someone who pays good money I think they deserve a nice finish. I didn't mention the name of the shop specifically for that reason. But when the people who are doing the work tell me that they have $15K into paint for a non candy non grapics paint on a car that didn't need alot of bodywork per the body guy's statement I would think that when you look at it from 10 feet away you shouldn't see overspray, sanding marks and wave. I'll be sure to keep my comments on this type of thing to myself from here on out.
Sorry if I offended anyone.

On average how long should you wait before using it after painting?
