Gun cleaning.

I had a problem with my gun yesterday, air leaking from the tip. Took it apart and found a worn out seal on the trigger mechanism.

Talking to the shop where I purchased the gun they said I shouldn’t have to clean the trigger assembly after ea use.

Wasn't really dirty when I opened it but the rubber seal completely disintegrated. Wondering if it’s from the product like the thinner etc? Maybe I should be opening this area after each use to allow to dry? Do the solvents get into this area?
Pic of my gun. Washer/seal is #18 that has crumbled. Gun doesn’t get used much.

It's a rubber seal so, lacquer thinner will cause the seal to first swell, then as it dries, it will dry out the seal to the point of disintegrating.

You might inquire if the HD Viton seal that is listed as an alternate, is made from plastic that's impervious to chemicals. If not, don't get thinner near the seal, or remove the seal before cleaning.

So the trigger mechanism has product go through? Thought maybe only air?
Perhaps after each use I should be wiping the seal off? Im just a weekend hack, gun sits a lot.
Thanks

It should be only Air going thru it. Not knowing how you clean your gun, I assumed thinner getting in there attacking the seal. If that assembly is Air tight then, the only other thing that will attack the seal is, oil. Since compressors cause oil to get past the ring (s) as they age. That is another possibility.

Or it could be a cheap Chinese rubber made from rice patties.

I'd inquire about the Viton seal. There's a reason they offer it as an alternate, like perhaps they found out the original rubber seal was problematic.

Well I got a new seal, wasnt until you mentioned the alternate that I noticed.Old eyes looking on my phone. Not sure what seal I got.

Yes oil from compressor could have degraded it,now I know.
