Is there a good one out there? I have an old HF one and it kinda sucks. But the overall design seems relatively simple so I'm not sure a good one exists...

amazon has them for 20-25, pretty much all the same manufacturer I believe. Having the little valve on the front is nice so all the sand does not fall out between uses.

This one is a little pricy compared to the HF types, but it allows you to switch between two different modes. Quality appears very good. I have only used the hopper mode and it did the job.

thats what I consider a spot blaster.

They have a gun with a hose you put in a bag or bucket, I consider that a full car suction blaster compared to a pressure pot type blaster.
