Anybody know a good match for HD black?
i have Standox factory pac. Chromabase 99K in stock. If something else is better I'll get it.
I'm repainting a tank and not the fenders.
Apologize if this has been discussed before.

if you use SPI black the customer will want the rest of the bike painted

I'll second that, about 3 months ago I painted a part for my cousin's Vivid black Harley and the SPI Black looked blacker, cleaner, than the factory paint. Btw, his bike is about
2 years old and is kept in excellent condition.

I'll do some spray outs and also see if I can get it scanned. Blacks are not all the same. I would use SPI if I were doing all the tin. I did find some internet places claiming a match to the HD Vivid Black but no info as to what it is exactly other than urethane base. $135 a pint for black of unknown quality ain't going fly for me.

Mine should be at least as black but I would vote that it would be blacker but I can be bias! LOL

It is blacker and you'd notice it right away, I wish I had taken pictures of the bike I did. I painted the big box that is added on the back of the bike for longer trips, whatever that thing is called.

I let you know what I come up with for the Harley. I will be using the SPI black on a 67 BMW tank and fenders some time soon.

Haven't had the chance to try the SPI black yet but I'll take your word that, don't want this tank to do that.

I've used house of colors years ago on factory Harley black. Matched well.

I make my own black colors and store the sprayouts in a binder. I can count on one hand the times when the paint makers formula matched a black vehicle, that goes for factory packs as well. I have various mixes of real black mixed with various percentages of weak white, and some others with various percentages of pthalo blue and yellow as well. Usually I find one of my own is closer than the specified formula, and can be tinted to produce a "blendable match."
