I've been plodding along on my first ever car project since last summer. I am using SPI W&G remover, SPI epoxy, 2k and also purchased some SPI reducer in anticipation of using the epoxy as a seal coat in the not too distant future.
I have always had a fish eye here or there but the last two times I have shot SPI Expoy, things are out of control.
Prior to today, I had been using these nice 12"x12" blue surgical towels that my surgeon brother gave to me with the W&G remover. I had about 50 of them and during their first use they were "sterile".
I have also used various brands of tack clothes and today used one from NAPA.
Today, I thought that maybe the "sterile" towels were tainted since they had now been through the washing machine so I used those disposal blue shop towels.
Before mixing the Epoxy, I cleaned the mixing container with reducer as well as the paint reservoir on the gun.
I also, have installed a new air cleaner at the outlet of the compressor which, by the way, is a kobalt 60 gallon 11.5scfm @ 90 and 13.4scfm @ 40.
I am using the purple harbor freight guns and have even tried three different brand new ones after taking apart and cleaning with reducer.
I went up to 60 psi with trigger pulled and down to 20 psi and no difference in my problem. I went from 1 1/2 turns on to 3 turns out and still the same thing.
I am down to my last piece to shoot with epoxy and then 2k (which is already done on 80% of the car) and am going freaking crazy.
Also, I started using a knife, cleaned with reducer, to mix the epoxy because I had been using wood paint sticks and thought maybe that was the problem.
I apply the W&G remover through a spray bottle.
Finally, I have had the UFO air cleaners just prior to the gun both on and off and no difference.
I will say that this problem seemed to start when I purchased a second gallon of W&G remover but I was still using the already washed "sterile" blue rags back then. Also, i am on my second gallon of epoxy. Please don't take this as a slam against the products but could either of these come contaminated from the factory?
One of the pictures on on a piece of the car and the other is on a piece of heavy brown paper.
HELP!!!
Thanx - Craig
